That is why I believe that Rocky Linux is the most utilized Enterprise Linux operating system and continues to grow. We carefully structured everything to be 100% community and absolutely stable with no shortcuts or compromises ever. There is no unilateral control that any company has over the project (not even my own company!). There was no conversion of company owned infrastructure, IP, assets, or engineers. Everything about Rocky Linux is driven and controlled by the wonderful people of our community!Īdditionally, we built everything from scratch.
From there I solidified the structure, and formalized the leadership and then bylaws and a formal board and project sub-boards.
I created functional teams to work on the various initiatives needed including development, infrastructure, and release engineering, all the way through branding, documentation, and even merchandise.Įveryone who wanted to help, both technical and non-technical, had a role and within each of these teams natural leadership emerged, a true meritocracy. When I first announced the formation of Rocky Linux, over ten-thousand people joined the initiative in a short matter of time to help. This article cites me personally as the cause of Rocky's market uptake, and while my ego would love to relish in that, there are many people who deserve credit for what Rocky Linux has become! Multiple industry reports and data sources are showing that the world has chosen Rocky Linux to be the successor of CentOS.
